I had a funny story lined up I swear...

and then it struck me. He is going to war. This friend from high school is going to war. For me. For you. I don't know exactly what he will be doing or exactly where he will be. But I do exactly know him. He is not a number or an anonymous face, a name out of thousands. He is my friend. My friend. I love him. I haven't seen him in 20 years. I may never see him again. What the fuck. I have been blindsided by the immediacy of this(and notice the irony of just how immediate it is). He-his team, these men, these women, these boys and girls-he does his job, is putting his life on the line for me. He knows me. He might not know you. But the people he does know have shaped his perception of what and who he is fighting for. Am I worth dying for? Are you? Cause it could happen. And He. He knows me. I know him. I love him. I don't want another death on my conscious. Holy Hell. What a night.

No death thought Brook! He will be back! And maybe you could plan on giving him a real hug when he comes back!

In the meanwhile, you and I are shopping for cookies and trail mixes to put in our care packages hehe

DCN-Yes! Cookies and trail mix. What else? Hugs don't fit in boxes...

aww yes they do.

Always send a letter in the care package... They need a letter.

for example....

I like to send dried fruit, things that DON'T MELT (I learned my lesson), powder drinks (nothing liquid), trail mix, snacks, nuts, some candy, A LETTER, and whatever... if they can listen to music, a CD mix? a fun magazine... whatever really.

Sometimes I even sent a bag of candy I had already opened and said: "I am sharing with you!" He loved it.

USPS has those special boxes with a flat rate for APO addresses.

Out best friends sent two of their sons over there, kids whose diapers I changed. I'll never forget when one of them, ramrod straight, not an ounce of baby fat left anywhere on his broad shouldered 6'2 frame, answered "yes mam" to me. He used to call me Aunt Elaine. Now he's a marine. I tried not to cry. I'm no help at all am I? okay, I have to say something. Pack everything in hot air popped corn. It's good packaging, non polluting and they can eat it. Oh, and tell him to keep his head down.

Spellbound-Reality can sometimes kick one pretty hard...ah well. I'll be sending well wishes and treats to somebody today.
